Golden Apple Foundation of Rockford sponsors the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Award Program to honor outstanding teachers. This program recognizes the excellence that exists in our classrooms and uses these teachers' skills through the Golden Apple Academy to serve as a catalyst for future excellence in education.

Who is Eligible?

• Full-time, certified teachers. Pre-K-5th grade in 2007-2008. 6-12th grade in 2008-2009.
• Teachers with five years of full-time teaching experience
• Teachers currently teaching full time in a public school or ISBE recognized non-public school classroom in Winnebago County
• Teachers currently in good standing within their district.

• Residents in School District

• Nomination forms must be received by October 22, 2004
• Nominated teachers are sent notification with an application on October 29, 2004
• Completed applications must be received by December 2, 2004
• A selection committee of community volunteers reviews applications and selects 20 teacher semi-finalists by December 15, 2004
• Selected teachers are observed in their classrooms by trained volunteers from January 4, 2005, through February 10, 2005
• An interview committee conducts interviews of semi-finalists on February 12, 2005
• Golden Apples are awarded to five teachers in surprise classroom visits on March 3, 2005
• Excellence in education celebrated at the ninth annual Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Banquet in April
