The Golden Apple Foundation Teacher Grant Program affords teachers the opportunity to develop and implement creative educational projects that enhance the learning experience of their students. It provides teachers a resource for expanding and enhancing the curriculum for the benefit of students in Early Childhood and Kindergarten through 12th grades.
Grant Program Criteria
To be eligible for a Golden Apple Grant, you must be teaching Early Childhood or Kindergarten through 12th grades in the Rockford Public School system. If awarded a grant, recipients must use the grant to implement the educational program described in their application. In awarding grants, the Foundation will not discriminate on the basis of an applicant’s race, color, age, creed, gender or national origin.
Grant Programs should:
- Improve and enhance a classroom’s academic environment.
- Be implemented in the same Academic year in which the grant is awarded.
- Encourage creative experiences for students.
- Complement major goals of the school district.
- Build upon school, department and grade level plans.
- Encourage student attendance and broaden student involvement.
- Utilize the creativity of individual teachers.
- Be endorsed by the principal of the applicant’s school.
The following types of programs will not be funded by the Golden Apple’s grant program:
- Commercially prepared teaching materials (such as turn-key or prepackaged programs, or components that rely on subcontracting classroom teaching assignments to vendors.)
- Programs or projects which are the responsibility of the school district (such as in-service and personal or corporate professional development.)
- Materials and equipment typically purchased by the school district.
- Capital or building campaigns.
- General endowment campaigns.
- General operating expenses.
- Scholarships.
- Charitable dinners or fund-raising events.

- How does the project meet needs as expressed in your School Improvement Plan?
- What specific gaps or weaknesses will be addressed by the project?
- Project Goals and Objectives (10 points)

- How are the project’s goals and objectives realistic, attainable and measurable?

- How does it encourage creative thinking and problem solving?
- Timeline (10 points)
- Provide a detailed project timeline that includes dates, milestones and activities.
- Project Evaluation (10 points)
- Describe the methods of evaluation you will use to determine the outcome of the project.
- Budget (10 points)
- Itemize expected expenses in as much detail as possible.
Grant recipients will be notified by January 23, 2008 and publicly recognized at a Rockford School Board meeting on February 12, 2008 and at the Annual Golden Apple Banquet on April 25, 2008. Grant recipients are required to use the money by the end of the Academic year during which the award is made and to submit a follow-up report detailing the use of the grant dollars. This report format will be provided to recipients at the school board presentation.
Except as noted, all applications are reviewed without regard to the identity of the educators or their schools. Please refrain from identifying yourself or your school in the body of the application. Any reference to your school, your school’s staff, or receipt of prior grant dollars within the body of this application will make this application ineligible for grant funding. Once the application is received, the cover sheet will be removed and your application will be tracked by number.
Past grant awards have ranged between $150 and $1,500. Only typed applications will be accepted. You may submit as many applications for different projects as you wish; however, all applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.
